    You need to pull the front mount to work on it. Pop the cap off (I don't think you need to remove the cables from it) and undo the two (I think) bolts that hold it on. Then you work on the distributor on your bench. Bruce has a great post that I'm sure he'll copy and paste in here telling...

    12v conversion update w/pegged ammeter

    Had the same issue on my recent 12V conversion. I find that it drops to something reasonable within a few seconds, maybe half a minute. Freaked me out a bit the first time, though, until it came down. On successive starts the same day, it goes high without pegging and comes down faster. -Paul

    Zero side to side play. There may have been a tiny (less than 0.002) bit of thrust play. I'm not going to replace the bearing at this time. -Paul
