How to read NAA serial number

Our 1954 NAA is #117207. Is that just a number, or do the digits indicate specific info about the tractor? thanks.

    NAA Radiator Replacement

Our NAA has a power steering pump and tank. That makes it difficult to install a new thermostat. The easiest way to get at it was to remove the radiator. Holding the radiator in hand, it seems very heavy, and we have had problems with overheating while mowing. We have a radiator shop nearby, so...

    Thermostat Temp

Ford NAA heat gauge shows cool, even when the tractor has been run for a while. I put a thermometer in the radiator and the temp show 140. So the thermostat is stuck open. It will be replaced. But my question is: Why does it matter (to the engine) if the heat is 140 or 180?

    Heating the oil pan

It is below zero for a day or two. I will slap a Katz magnetic heater onto the oil pan. Can the oil burn or get to hot if left in place?

Re: Ford 600 stuck in 2nd gear

Our NAA would slide out of third gear when under no load while coasting down a hill. Finding a like-new shift cover in a junkyard solved the problem. Youll want to get a new gasket too.

    Copper or Carbon Core Wire

Ours is NAA, 6V positive ground. It has Pertronix EI purchased here some years ago. Runs fine. After reading grandpa Loves discussion about EI where carbon core ignition wires were mentioned, I looked at ours. It is copper wire. The Pertronix manual doesnt say anything about it. Does...

    NAA Hydraulic Lift cover

How to get the lift cover off. Of course all the perimeter bolts are pulled. Im using a 5-foot railroad bar as a lever. Even if I hang on the bar, it wont come up. Ive used a chisel to try to break the seal of the gasket. Nothing budges. I assume we use neither heat nor hammer on cast...

    NAA Slides out of Gear

NAA slides out of gear when under no load driving down hill. Lifting the boot off the shift lever, I see LOTS of wear where the shifter goes into the shift cover. I ve not taken the cover off yet, but already I see there needs to be repair here. Do I weld all around and grind it down to fit the...

    801 SOS for Parts

I have asked several questions about this 1963 801 SOS tractor (serial #, etc) and appreciate the replies. The engine is locked up. Im a shade tree mechanic, not a machine shop. I could put a few thousand into it and end up with a tractor worth a few thousand. I dont need the tractor, I...

    S.O.S. Unusual Serial #

Decal on hood is Ford 801 Select O Speed. I dont know what year. Stamped on the face of the transmission by the starter, are the letters CDC. The numeral 3 is stamped an inch below that. Anybody know how to interpret this? Thanks.

    S.O.S tractor locked up

I posted a few questions about this on May 30 and got lots of help. A few more questions about this SOS: First, there doesnt seem to be a normal serial #. On the face of the transmission by the starter, CDC is stamped with 3 below that. Anybody know how to read that? Second, the traction...

    1963 S.O.S. Engine locked up

Friend was rototilling when the engine quit. He knows nothing mechanical, but someone suggested he remove the starter to see if he could turn the flywheel with a screwdriver. No, it would not turn. He gave up and said to me, Its yours. He also said the rear wheels are locked up, meaning he...

    Marvel Schebler TSX 428

OEM carb pulled from a NAA. TSX-428. Will list it on eBay unless someone here wants it. 2.25 bolt spacing. Other numbers on the brass plate are XSL and 548. It has not been opened up or cleaned up, just degreased and blown/brushed clean. It is baffling to see the prices on Marvel...

    NAA Brake Plate dust Shield

A new dust shield has been pressed into the brake backer plate. It stands proud about 1/8 inch, so the brake drum wont slide over it. If I pound the drum on, it might knock the shield out of place. Should that felt dust shield be lubricated or trimmed down? Thanks for the help.

Ford 730 front end loader on NAA

I have an NAA. A Ford 730 front end loader is on Craigslist. Does anybody know if it would be a fit? It has its own hydraulic front PTO pump.

    Abandoning 4140 HD Industrial

Last fall I bought a running 4140 HD Industrial. 1972 model. Four cylinder 172 Gas. 12V negative ground. Oil pressure was 40. I intended on doing lots of repair and painting, but am now abandoning the project. While mowing, the PTO broke out, the water pump broke down and it overheated...

    Valve Guides. 172 Gas

The valves are sloppy loose in the guides, so both are being replaced. Question is, can I hammer the guides out (and in again) in a home garage, or should I take the head to a shop with a hydraulic press? I will lap the new valves by hand. Thanks to all here who help novices. Peter

TSX 813 Carb Float and Needle

I used a rebuild kit that included everything brass except the float. Put it all together and the tractor runs fine. However, the needle doesnt seem to shut off properly, so the carb fills with gas when not running. The kit had two extra pieces not mentioned in the instructions; a clip and...

    Rebuild 172 engine

Im going to open up the 172 gas engine on my 1962 4140 HD Industrial. (It runs but blows volumes of smoke out the breather.) And now the water pump fell apart, so I have to take things apart anyway. Besides checking the compression at each cylinder, (dont have a gauge yet) is there anything...
