Model L, Front Axle Removal
Greetings. I've removed both wheels, knuckles, tie rod and both pivot shaft bearing caps, I can see the bearings. Now what? How do I remove the front axle from the bearings and the frame? Thanks.- DaveinNJ

LA clutch housing problem
I agree a helicoil will work. If it's going into a blind hole you have to mind the tap type, tap depth and coil length; that's well-explained on the helicoil website and in the catalog.- DaveinNJ

I have an after-market service book covering L, LA, LI and some LU. For the Deere engine, (not the Hercules) there are no head torque specs, only "Tighten capscrews evenly, from the center outwardly until all are tight." My 1940 Model L with the Hercules engine has a flywheel with two marks on it. TDC and spark (or "SPK" or "SPRK" perhaps). Hotflashjr, after trying unsuccessfully yesterday with a 2-jaw puller, today I used the setup in the attached image and drove the bearing down/out enough to clear the bull gear lip, then pulled the bull gear. LA Bull gear removal
Hotflash, both flanged shafts came out pretty easy. For both, I removed the inner quills, removed the capscrews/washers, and tapped out the shafts.
