    Farmall H charging system

JANICHOLSON, thanks so much for the reply. There is a lot of information there and I will be studying it in depth. In the past, I have not used the low setting on the light switch. I just always left it on the high setting. Therefore, I didn't know if it was necessary to replace the faulty field...

    Farmall H charging system

My 1948 Farmall H has not been charging the battery when it is running. I suspected the 6-volt generator was at fault, but a trip to the local armature and electric shop revealed the generator was working properly. Upon further inspection on my tractor, I found that the field resistor in the...

    Fast hitch plows

Barnyard, my 300 is one of the last ones to come off the assembly line and thus has the 2nd generation fast hitch. I think they changed the fast hitch sometime toward the end of the 300/400 production line.

    Fast hitch plows

Mark, my tractor is a Farmall 300 row crop and the plow I am looking at is 3 bottom, I think the model is 309. Thanks

    Fast hitch plows

I am new to using a fast hitch plow and am wondering how one goes about leveling the plow from front to back. Seems to me with the fast hitch arms pivoting at a single point under the tractor, the rear of a fast hitch plow will move up and down more than the front of the plow when changing the...

McCormick Model 209 Fast Hitch Moldboard Plow

As a follow-up question, my Farmall 300 does not have the depth control cylinder on the fast hitch, just the up/down cylinder. Will I not be able to control a fast hitch plow adequately without the depth control cylinder? Thanks

McCormick Model 209 Fast Hitch Moldboard Plow

I am considering the purchase of this plow. From photos I have seen it appears to be in fairly descent shape. I was wondering if anyone on this forum had any pros or cons regarding this model of IH plow. I would only use it at occasional plow days. It does have Super Chief bottoms. Can a person...

    Transporting a ZTU

Jerry, thanks for the suggestion, I'll have to follow up on that idea.

    Transporting a ZTU

SWMolines, Just to be sure I get this right: I assume you are referring to the two threaded holes that are below and just to the front of the radiator. It looks like those holes take a 3/4 bolt. I hope I can find an eyebolt that large. Thanks for your input.

    Transporting a ZTU

I am planning to take my ZTU to a tractor show and was wondering how similar folks have strapped the front end of a ZTU down to the trailer. I don't see any apparent place on the front end to hook the chains to. Any suggestions? Thanks

    ZTU coolant issue

UNC, thanks for sharing your experience with a similar issue. Once we get a break from this hot weather, I'll have to investigate my ZTU cooling system more thoroughly.

BMG1, Thanks for the water pump suggestion. I may have to dig into that.

    ZTU coolant issue

Curt, I'm not sure about a thermostat. I just assumed it had one, I'll have to check. Thanks

    ZTU coolant issue

My ZTU has a coolant foaming problem after it warms up. Since I did not know the previous history of the coolant, I drained the cooling system, flushed it with fresh water, then put in Prestone radiator flush solution and ran the tractor for a while. Drained and flushed the system again before...

    Torque amplifier replacement/rebuild

I am looking at the possible purchase of a Farmall 400. The owner says he does not think the TA works. What would be a ball park figure for the cost to replace or rebuild the TA on a 400 Farmall? Thanks

    Identify IH cutter/chopper

Yes, the wheels are in the down position and there is still quite a bit of clearance under the cutter. If the cutter were raised to the highest point, the clearance would be much greater. Has anyone used this implement to chop corn stalks?

    Identify IH cutter/chopper

I came across these photos of an IH cutter/chopper on the internet. Does anyone know the model number of this cutter? I assume this was marketed during the late 50s and early 60s. Was this IH's fast hitch version of a brush hog? Seems to have a lot of clearance underneath. Anyone have any...

What IH plow models (both fast-hitch and pull type) did IH market during the 1950s for the Farmall 300 and 350 tractors? Thanks
