    631 Lift

I have a 631 that I purchased last summer. I used it quit a bit for plowing and discing a 3 acre food plot in the spring and summer. The lift worked fine until recently when I had my boom pole on it lifting some heavy stuff. The lift kind of took off on it's own wanting to go up quickly and...

    Mag or battery ignition

Thanks everyone for the advice. I was leaning toward the magneto anyway and now you have confirmed it. I'll get the magneto checked out by someone who knows more about that than I do. When I get the engine put back together I'll let you know how it worked out. tsb

    Mag or battery ignition

I'm starting to restore a 1947 Cub that I purchased a year ago. It was complete but the engine needs a complete overhaul. This tractor had a magneto ignition originally but someone has converted to a battery by bypassing the magneto and adding a coil with wires from an improvised switch to...

Thanks Glen -- could be coming from the governor. Not in a hurry to tear into it right now -- good winter project. Billy

    641 Engine Noise

I bought a 641 a while back with the intention of eventually restoring it. But it's in decent running condition so we used it to plow some river bottom for a food plot. It pulled the plow fine and ran good but there is a loud rattling sound in the lower front of the engine that worries me...

Good looking rig. Probably a little bit of a gas guzzler but I agree on fun to operate.

    SA Transmission

Split it where the transmission and torque tube connect, leaving the tube attached to the engine? I'll be sure to block the rear end well to insure stability. Thanks for the tip on the special bolts. Billy

    SA Transmission

I have to go into my SA transmission to replace the oiler gear and probably some bearings. How do I disconnect the drive shaft coupling at the front of the transmission when I split the trans from the torqe tube? Can't see a way to get to it from below -- or do I just let it pull out from the...

    SA Tranny niose

It's got straight 90 in it. I think I'll change it and go with 85/140 and see if that helps.

    SA Tranny niose

I had the top off earlier but just to inspect. It looked okay so I closed it back up and changed the gear oil. I'll pull it agian and see if there's any play in the shaft. Either way I'll have to split it to replace anything won't I?

    SA Tranny niose

Well after nearly three years in the shop I finally got my SA back to gether, painted and started up. I bought this tractor in salvage condition so I didn't get to drive it far until after I had completely been through it. I finally got to drive down the road far enough to get it warmed up real...

    JD #5 sicle mower

Thanks for the pictures and information. I'm gonna ask $250 and see if I get any takers. This mower had been hooked up to a Farmall B and used very little over the last 20 years or so, mostly for mowing the road ditch and clipping pasture - kept under shed. It doesn't look as good as yours...

    FArmall B SN

I recently purchased a "B" that is in good working order but I plan to tear it down and restore it. The SN on the data plate under the seat is FAB 208816. The numbers for this model listed in the SN guide at the left only go up to 182964 for a 1947. Any one have an idea what I have?

    No spark - 631

Thanks to Sound Guy and Ken. I followed your advice and found the insulator pad on the inside of the distributor connectin was worn through. I made one from some gasket material, set the point gap to .025 and she fired right up. Appreciate your help. I had not been into the distrubutor much...

    No spark - 631

I did replace the points, condenser and rotor but not sure what the gap setting should be. Still using the same dist cap, I'll replace that tomorrow.

    No spark - 631

Last time I used my 631 it died at idle speed and would not start. I didn't have time to chase the problem then but finally got to it today. This tractor has the original 6 volt system. I have no spark out of the distributor, measure 6 volts at the + side of the coil but nothing past that. I...
