[ quote="joe wilson"](reply to post at 14:58:40 04/18/13) We put the leads to the alternator like the picture shows and installed the correct diode in the line. Owner of tractor did this and checked the voltage with his el cheapo voltmeter and he says the voltage varies quickly from around...

I checked voltage across battery with engine off and then with engine running and got the same reading..about 12.5 volts. We are just using a small light in the #2 wire but we're going to switch the wires at the alternator and see if it does any better, and I think we're going to try that diode...

What would happen if you reversed the leads at the alternator 1 & 2 terminals. Would it just not charge? My friend has an 8n which he wired up with the terminals reversed and it doesn't seem to be charging. Thanks

    John Deere starter

I took a quick look tonight at the starter again and there is no quick disconnect but it is as you said that when I turn on the ignition it goes directly to the starter but it must do it somewhere else besides at the starter. I'll try to find a wiring diagram somewhere and see if I can trace...

    John Deere starter

All it has on the starter solenoid is the battery cable and a smaller wire with a ring terminal on the end plus a red wire on the small side of solenoid which was not removed during overhaul. I tried to remove the ring terminal wire from the solenoid + terminal but then I had nothing so I put it...

    John Deere starter

I recently rebuilt the engine on my 425 John Deere. When I went to start it for the first time I ground on the starter for awhile but it wouldn't start. I put a little gas in the carburetor and tried to start it and it ran for a short while but now the starter runs every time I turn the key to...

    cub cadet motor mount

I found a piece of plate steel today, so I may do some measurements and maybe weld the plate to the engine cradle. I know there are probably better ways to do this but I think I can make it work. It won't look stock but that's not my goal. It appears the stock engine sat level in the cradle...

    cub cadet motor mount

I guess I need to clarify; I am trying to replace the original Cub Cadet 12hp engine with a generic (flat bottom) engine. It appears that if I just put the engine onto the frame it will sit too low. The original (round pan) engine has standoffs which will not fit my engine. It looks like it...

    Hydrostat Problem

I found out the hard way: DON'T OIL THIS LINKAGE unless it is really stuck. Mine did the same thing.

    cub cadet motor mount

I'm trying to install a 12hp Kohler K301 engine in my 1282 Cub Cadet. I think I need an aftermarket mount for this non-Cub engine. Does anyone make one of these or do I have to make my own? Thanks..Joe
