    Pump bypassing?

Thanks for nothing, Dell. Could do without the condescencion. We're not all retards here and you're not the only one with any expertise. Jerry- Thanks for the advice. I'll take a look at the lift cylinder but it's probably that gasket. Just wanted to know if anyone had other plausible...

    OT: Foam for Tires

I recently had the fronts filled on my 8N for $84.00 each. Ride quality is the same and extra weight is a benefit. Best money I've spent so far. The peace of mind is like driving a tank. The rears, however, are $425.00 each to get filled. Since I've yet to have a mesquite thorn-induced...

    PTO RPM

Thanks Dell. Inductive tach. Never thought of it. Only works by day? Me, too. Cheap enough from Pep Boys I'm sure, but I'll use the 3/4 throttle advice. Sounds the most scientific. LOL Thanks as always, ya'll!

    PTO RPM

Happy weekend, all. Nice weather. I have a 1947 8N with no Proofmeter, obviously. I'm concerned I may be running my Rhino mower at too high (or too low) RPM. Is the only way to measure the PTO RPM to install a tach? Or is there a simpler way of estimating it? (My eyes aren't what they used...

    3 pt pulling strength

On a more positive note, the tractor will probably long outlast the discs between your vertebrae. Whether the tractor was made for "jerking" or not, your body sure as heck wasn't. You're gonna ruin your back in no time and not be able to use the tractor at all...:(

    Front Wheel Question

All great suggestions, guys. I really appreciate it. It didn't occur to me run radials with tubes. That'd definitely be the cheapest fix. Although...that foam sounds like what I need. Comes down to what I can afford, just like everything else....;) Thanks again for your time. I'll be up...

    Front Wheel Question

I have a "48 8N. Cactus & mesquite thorns are constantly causing me flats. Bummer. I"m going to mount steel belted radials in the front. When I go to the junkyard to pick up some used rims, what should I tell the guy I"m looking for? I.e, what size wheel, or what"s a common vehicle they"ll...

    4-year-old dies in tractor accident

Good Lord. Worst possible scenario. My four year-old rides with me, but right between my legs with her hands on the wheel. Just as I and countless thousands of others have done at that age. Poor little fella died doing what he probably learned to love the most in his short life: riding on the...

Dumb Question about using a press

The key to good gasket scraping is a SHARP blade! Otherwise, you run the risk of removing as much metal as you do gasket which leads to...leaks! The best thing is a single-edged razor blade in one of those metal holder-thingies. (Maybe two dollars?) Sure, you could spend ten to twenty dollars...

When did the correctness police take over this board?

    Front Wheel Alignment

Thanks Dan. That's along the lines what I was thinking but thought there might be a scientific way of doing it (short of taking it in to Goodyear for a 4-wheel alignment.) LOL I have the OD transmission but I've yet to take it out on the highway to air her out. I'm not worried as much...

    Front Wheel Alignment

Just changed out all the tie rod ends and drag links on my '47. What's the easiest way to align the front wheels? Thanks in advance. James in Abilene

    Shredder Question

Thanks guys. I went and looked at the Rhino today and it's built pretty strong. Looks like it'll last decades. I'm gonna go ahead and get it this weekend. Late Christmas. :)

    Shredder Question

Hi ya'll. I'm getting ready to buy a shredder for my 8N and need a little advice. I have 22 acres, mostly coastal bermuda & light brush. So far, I've decided on the Rhino 160 ($1,300.00 locally). How does this compare with the Bush Hog mowers? What's the max weight I need to be aware of? Any...

    Put some hair around it?

Got it! I don't know whether the PTO was engaged or not. I tried it both ways, used the back-forth-twist-turn-wiggle-push method (the same as a manual transmission) and she slid right in. Back in bidness!

Thanks Bob. And Bob. I'll take your advice and go try it again, gentle-like.

    Put some hair around it?

Hey ya'll. I'm working on my tractor, so it must be Sunday... I had to drop the pump for repairs. The ear (pivot point) where the lift control valves arm is pinned broke off on me. Rather than buy a new base, I J-B Welded it back on. So far, so good. Upon re-assembly, it appears the PTO...
