Pump bypassing?

Quick question: My '51 has an intermittent lift problem. Sometimes it goes up, sometimes it don't.
I pulled the left cover off to observe flow. When I move the lift lever to the UP position, I see an almost imperceptible stream of tiny air bubbles coming from a blown gasket between the pump valve chamber and pump housing (Part No: 9N613 here.)

My question is: Before I go to all the trouble of pulling the pump, is there further troubleshooting necessary or is pressure bypassing enough to prevent the lift from lifting? (In other words, is that leak what's causing the problem?)

Thanks for all your expert advice.

Sincerely,

I don't know of any more tests but I have not done much work on the N hydraulics. I would consider rebuilding the lift cylinder, replacing the cam follower pin and giving it a real good cleaning while you are in there as well as changing the fluid. Mission creep can get you on any job but tearing apart the hydraulic system is just so messy that it is a job I would only want to do once if possible.

Thanks for nothing, Dell. Could do without the condescencion. We're not all retards here and you're not the only one with any expertise.

Jerry- Thanks for the advice. I'll take a look at the lift cylinder but it's probably that gasket. Just wanted to know if anyone had other plausible suggestions.

John- The fluid's fresh. I've had that sucker apart 3 times this year. The third time I got so ------ I went out and bought a brand-new Kubota. Cured all my Ford problems. I'm just tinkering with it to keep my tools from rusting...

Thanks ya'll!

not a expert, but I have run a N for a while and my experience is that they are tolerant of small leaks[maybe not where you're talking]so it may be worth while to check the relief valve to see if it is worn.there are a lot of very helpfull people on this forum, but I also have been rebuked as a rube for asking a question not worthy of an answer...Iguess---lha

Thanks, Bud. I'll definitely inspect the relief valve when I pull that friggin' pump. (It's a marvel of simplicity & reliability, but dang it's hard to get to.)
