1 row hipper/ridger

I recently bought a Howse 1 row ridger, it has 2 gangs with 3 notched disks on each gang. I had a hell of a time hooking it to my tractor because it will not stand upright without something to brace it. I lifted it with the boompole and angled the gangs and set it with two 2x4s to keep it from falling backward and was able to get the lower lift arms attached. I then had to take a come along and put in place of the toplink arm and winch it up to almost the normal position, then I braced it where it would not tip foward and 1nstalled the top link. This is a very dangerous way to have to connect an implement the way it balances. Of course no manual came with this brand new implement($7.50 from Howse no PDF available online). I am going to make a pair of telescoping legs to support this thing so I don't have to go through this sh#$%! again. I have seen 1 row hippers and row builders standing upright on their own, but this one will not.

I have one, not as fancy as your, but it has the same problem. It either falls to the front or to the rear and has to be lugged around to hook up.

but after you plow the garden and work up the soil, this thing will really do a fine job of hilling up the rows and covering up grass.

Sounds to me that you could mount a single Bulldog jack in the front center, adjust to the height you need to attach lift arms.

I have the howse 18" ridger. haven't used it yet but I do think it will be a pain to hook up. mine is 400lbs. that's what the book said. I got one when I bought the tool. the book says to brace with planks to keep in an upright position. good luck with yours. mine is in the shop lying on the floor.

Hello Jim, I have a three blade hipper, about 400# . Had the same problem. I solved it by resting the front brace between the blades on a concrete pillar block (house pillar). Just back to it, hook up 3pt. and lift. Mike in VILLE PLATTE, La.
