101 super build up

I was woundering what you could do to a 101super to make more power? Are there any parts that will interchange between moters? How big can you get the 201 and still be reliable? thanks

I know you can bore out a 201 from 3-1/8" to 3-1/4" to essentially make it a 218. Mine is bored out to that with .060" oversize pistons. You might be able to go larger, but finding affordable pistons for anything bigger might be a challenge. The best thing about these engines as far as power potential is RPM. These engines were built to run in trucks at around 3000 RPM, but are governed to 1940 RPM on the high Twin Power setting in these tractors. At 3000 RPM, the rated flywheel HP of the 201 is 82, and the 218 is 87. These ratings were with a down draft carburetor, and with the updraft carb on the tractors they would be somewhat less, but still a substantial gain can be had by raising the RPM by 1000. Now, I should say I haven't done this on my 101 Super because I don't plan on pulling with it, but I have thought about it. Maybe some others that have more experience boosting up these Chrysler powered Masseys can chime in here.

You can fit either a 244, 251 or 265 in the frame without much trouble. This was considered a valid replacement motor. Block is 2 inches longer than 201.

I just bought a 101 super a couple of months ago with a 4 barrel and a turbo on it. I bought it from a fellow that I have known for years and he told me that he is not sure how many horsepower it puts out but once he put it on a dyno and blew out the head gasket at just over 120 hp. I am trying to get it back to original but am having trouble finding the original manifolds, carb, and governor. It now has manifolds on it from a car and now I found out that the original engines had a updraft carb and a belt driven gov. I am finding out that I am going to need everything from the air cleaner to the muffler. Any help would be appreciated. I currently have it running with a carb off of a 1937 chrysler car and am going to get a vaccum governor for it for now. I want to eventually get it back to original and restored.
