I have a 430W with loader that I'd consider letting go for $3K. Central Colorado.

Any 2010 and diesel 1010's are best avoided. If patient and talented. A 1010 gasser can be tamed and will work half decent for a 50+ year old machine.
Does it have live pto and scv's ? Any option like swept back axles, spin out rims, float ride seat, HD fenders, 1000rpm pto etc ?

Go to Tractor Data.com to check out the specs.
As buickanddeere says if it is in reasonable condition, you are getting a 30hp/ draw bar rated tractor with 3 point and open center hydraulics, from the 60's. Versus a 1947/52, 9N with 12.6 hp/ draw bar or 1939/42, 8N with 23 hp/ draw bar and no hydraulics. The brush hog depending on condition should fetch $500, so it ain't a bad deal in my opinion. By all means look it over, drive it and see how it preforms.

1010's are a tuff old tractor.. I'm not so sold on the diesel version.. At Hine Tractor Sales [1980] we had "The Old Dog" .. A 1010 wheel tractor with a forklift on the rear and a pick up hook extended out from the loader pins.. With a full shipping tote on the forks loaded with spent pins and bushings [from dozer tracks], we pulled a Cummins 190 out of a road grader.. Yep, one tough old tractor..

i know a man that worked at a deere dealer in early 60s. they sold 4 of the 10 series tractors in 1960 . he says the owner claimed if they had sold 5 they would've gone bankrupt.

A 430 is a great tractor for your needs......I would not buy a 1010. Too many horror stories.

Ooh yes,, I try to be nice when some talk good about a 1010 or 2010...but they are a Grenade with a loose pin...

I just recently purchased a '62 model 1010 Gas Burner. Paid $1000 for it running well, good power steering, good PTO, good 3-pt. All in all I've put about 100hours on it so far mowing, baling, and disking, and I don't see a thing wrong with the tractor. Maybe some people got lemons and I just got lucky, I don't know, but all in all, one of the better farm utility tractors I've ran.

It's not a 2010 and it's not a diesel 1010. Two huge differences.

local parts-repair place run by a family that has farmed with JD's for generations (where I do a lot of trading)
recently got in a 1010.
Looked good, asked the owner about it.
He said simply 'you don't want it'
He called out to his dad who was working nearby,
'tell him how long we owned that new 1010 back then'
Dad just grunted and repeated 'you don't want it'
They farm with JD, they fix JD, I didn't even bother to ask why not,
I just listened and walked away from it..........
