1070 Case brakes

The right brake pedal all of a sudden only needs to be pushed in about 1/2 inch to engage the brake on our 1070. The left pedal is the same as always maybe 1 1/2 inches to engage the brake. The right side drags slightly as you can tell when you step in the clutch. We also had a smoking brake cover when we ran it down the road.

sounds like the balls and springs on the reactor plate have been hot and are stretched, this will make the brakes not release and do as you state, pull the outer cover to repair

May just need some cleanup and the removal of a shim, so the balls don't roll to the top of the ramps, and wedge there.
Should be a simple fix, after inspection and cleanup.

Or it could just be they need adjusted up a bunch. Is the adjuster spring broken?

Are the retractor spring there and unbroken?

Is the arm free, or seized/tight on the front pin?

JonK,

Do not overlook the nylon retainer that hooks the pedal inkage to the master cylinder under the dash, I have seen them disconnect and not return the power brake plunger and allow the valve to not open up to allow brake cylinder oil to return from the cylinder.

There is always static pressure in a power brake system and it wouldn't take much more to keep the cylinder jacked up into a no free play situation which could cause a brake heating issue.
