1070 powershift information

I have a 79 1070 white cab with what i believe to be spool troubles. The clutch kills the engine and the shift will not kick into third. I have the spools exposed through the floor but don"t know where to go from here. Help anyone? my local service man tells me to remove plugs to clean a lube but is unsure which ones. Is this a trap?

I should also ask about the hydraulic pump,I know it needs replaced, is there any way to get a bigger pump for this series,say off a 12 or a 13, are the gpm specs any better? Thanks Brad

The 1070 is a closed center system. If I remember right the 1070 is a 17 GPM system. The bigger, newer systems might get you another 2 GPM IF they did fit. Not worth the trouble. Why do you think you need a larger pump? The 1070 has a much better hyd. system than any JD of the same age. DK

I was just wondering about the pump, the old one did work just fine but in today's world bigger is always better, right? thanks

Wrong, bigger is not always better. no matter what most people tell you be it tractors or government.

DKase. Sorry but the 70 series all had open center systems. the first closed systems were the 90 series and later, the gear pumps are positive displacement and the piston pumps as used later were variable displacement so that closed center operation was possible useing a low pressure standby until a sensing check valve circuit told the pump compensator to make the pressure and flow needed to accomplish the desired work. I am not even sure that Case ever made more than the standard capacity pumps for the 770-1175 tractors, if anyone has more info on that I would like to know as that is good info to have. mEl

I used valve lapping compound to polish the spools in my 2290, Worked great It only takes a small amount to do the job. Spools and valve body should be complete clean before putting back together.
