Im normallyin a deeregood guy but, An old farmer in the area
is having an auction that will include 2 1206's. One has 38
rubber and has 540/1000 pto overall average to above
average shape. Was overhauled a few years ago. The other
has 34 rubber and us getting a little tired. Will need an
overhaul soon. This one is a little more beat up. Average to
slightly below average shape. What should I except to spend
on these at auction. I really want one to restore, just don't
know if I'm getting my hopes up for nothing.

cab? or fenders? the ta good? park gear not broken? how tight the front end is? is ALL the sheet metal, handles, steps there? what kind of shape the 3 point is,if the pto needs an overhaul? what kind of shape are the tires?
need to look at those main things. thats what determines the value .. and if you dont no what your buying then you take the chance of biting off more then you can chew, lots of small and minor things can add up quick like lights gauges, steps, handles, fenders, steering wheel, seat, seat suspension rebuilt, rewiring things from someone elses coble job, gaskets, and seals..

Everything is there. Both have fenders. Everything works. Tires are 50% or better. Don't know if they come with duals. Both are still used spring and fall. Not show stoppers, but used honest tractors. What do they sell for is my big question I guess.

Very loaded question but here's a real world answer (which I'm sure you already know). If you're the only one there that wants them then they might be had for $2-3k. If you have competition and your willing to spend $10k+ then you best be ready to spend it 8)

1206 due mainly to their very sharp paint scheme, being one of the first turbo diesel over 100 H.P.and somewhat low production numbers plus collector value I would think around $7500. The Gold Demos,FWA, and certain yellow tractors are sought after more. The 34s hurt,if TA delete hurts .I have seen a few completely done very nice 1206s bring 20K plus.Tires, paint and fixing everything can easily cost $7500 plus. They are still the standout IH ever produced. We had a new one and I have purchased several to have or sell and they still start slow ,shift poor, and rear ends are noisy, but they are still one of my favorite tractors

Daughters FIL picked up a very nice one at auction about 8 years ago, open station, very nice overall condition, 70% rubber for 2500 bucks. I paid 4500 for one in worse condition overall a couple of years ago. Around here (and location) can play a role in good condition with no collectors bidding I'd say in the 5-10K range. Put a couple of collectors in the bidding and who knows?

You could say that's a million dollar question; What's it going to bring? Hard tellin, but don't be surprised if tired out one brings $5000 or higher. I recall 20 years ago I was at a auction a 1206 NFE with recent overhaul only brought $5500. But that was 20 years ago.

Nick, I have a couple of 1206 IH, I am going threw the one now, had injectors and fuel pump rebuilt cost $900 at a shop, order head gasket set $220 dollars, you can spend alot on these tractors fast, You can take a look at them on my web page at

My best guess at auction would be 3-5000 on the poorer one, and 6-9000 on better one...maybe more if there are guys with money to spend.

Tractors that size have gone up a lot in the last couple years. You might be close on the poorer one, but the nicer one could easily go over $10,000.
