I have a 1206 that when I go to start it gets clicks at starter the starter is rebuilt and just had it checked again to make sure it not that new battiers in april but still took them to napa and they said there good so now I"m lost all wire look good turned flywheel to see if motor is suck it move good.It just ran last week now just clicking when push button very lost and not sure where go to from here any help would be great.

Just because ya had it REBUILT soes not mean that it is REBUILT in todays market . Just last year i had to Educate the socalled REBUILDER on a I H 966 starter . He got the idea that i was P&****ed off when i had to go back with it and threw it at him . Your problem is the solenoid not your batterys . But to be on the safe side here test the amount of voltage that goes to the start side of the solenoid Then take it back and have them replace it .

how do I go about testing it s side on solenoid then just com on neg side of battier with key on or off. what sould it read?? when I put pos on s side of solenoid and com on neg of battier it reads 0.00

i checked them there good and tight even cleaned them I"m so lost on this one I would hate to have to put all brand new wire into it to see if wires are bad.

1. Take starter off
2. Get 12 volt battery and jumper cables
3. Connect one black clamp to starter frame and the other to neg batt post
4. Connect one red clamp to batt pos post
5. There will be sparks and the starter will jump some but touch the other red clamp to the terminal on the side of the starter that connects to the selinoid.
6. The starter should turn quite fast if everything inside is right. If it doesn't there is something wrong...bad connection someplace. Check the brushes, maybe they weren't put in right and are not against the commutator bars. Just some ideas. Good luck. RichH

thanks rich I've done that to. If anything else comes to mind I could really need the help pulling my hair out tring to find the problem.

Well if ya can see the color of the wire it should be a orange wire going to the S terminal and when ya push the starter button you should have twelve volts on that terminal checking with a volt meter. Now one thing hat may be given ya fits is the clutch safety switch . so JUST FOR TESTING hook the two wires together at the switch and see if this makes any difference . IF it starts then well then ya need to replace the clutch safety switch.

Make for sure the tractor is in neautral. (So you don"t run yourself over) Place a jumper wire on the battery post of the solenoid. Next touch the other end to the keyed post on the solenoid. Probably marked "S". If the starter works then the problem is in the key switch side. If it does the same "click" then it is either starter or cables. Sometimes cables look good but aren"t. Under the insulation they could be full of corrosion. To rule out the cables try and place a jumper cable in the cables place. Most of the time you can leave the cables connected for this. If you connect a jumper cable and the tractor turns over then that battery cable is bad. Good luck.

I had a similiar problem on a 560. I had been turning it over with the starter but not real fast, then it quit. I assumed the starter went bad and had it rebuilt. Same problem when I got home. I switched batteries and still the same. I had painted this tractor and had "cleaned" under the washer and top of the hyd. case before I installed the ground. I removed the ground and cleaned the area again and cleaned the cable end. It now starts like a new one. Maybe your problem is similiar.
