My tractor fleet consists of a Farmall H, a Farmall Super M, An International 544 (not a hydro), an International 1256, and my newly aquired 1066 Blackstripe. My 1256 has a couple of major problems. The brakes and power stearing will fail at random times, i suspect it to be the mcv valve or the pump, the linkage needs rebuilt, it jumps out of gear, the parking break dosn"t work, and it looks like the previous owner ripped the Torque-Amplifier off. My qustion is, whats a rough estimate of the repair costs? Its a tough tractor (when it works) and would really like to turn it into a restoration project. Real strong engine and has the "IH roar".

Not quite sure what you mean by "ripped the Torque Amplfier off". Do you mean that the lever and linkages are gone? That doesn't mean the TA is gone it just means it went bad and they unhooked it. The TA itself is an internal part of the tractor. Your shifting difficulties, jumping out of gear, and parking brake not working may all be connected. I hope The Tractor Vet responds to your post. He can give you a lot better idea than me. Whatever the case parts for that tractor are getting to be pricey. Those repairs won't be cheap.

I have a ta kit that has the mcv rebuild kit, new hydraullic pump, new quill, and a heavy duty t/a with the lower gear and a 5 year warranty for $1300. You can save some money by using a standard t/a kit but I wouldn't reccomend it if you use the tractor for actual work. Hope this helps
