I'm looking at a 1294 Case 4 wheel drive with a grange loader bucket. 2800 hrs $9500 I value the opinions on this forum. Does anyone have experience with these tractors good, bad or indifferent? The tractor is about 300 miles from me so I would like to educate myself before I waste 10 hrs on the road to look at it. Thanks in advance.

B-I-Ls Dad bought a new 1294 because He liked Dads 1290,,, Probably got over 10 K hours on it now. HAD 1 Clutch and Injector pump rebuild. Looks like the most used tractor on farm . Motor is fuel mizer and uses no Oil,,,, ONE TUFF tractor. that outlasted its owner who passed on in 1998 ,, My Dad joined him Last August.... SO at the estate Auction B-I-L bought Dads 1290,,good running ,decent looking , had seen very little action in last 10 yrs , figured it would be nice to have a PAIR ! .. Well , spun a bearing this spring with less then 1500hrs , simply driving across field , Go Figure ,,Anyway We need a Crank , But prefer an entire Motor ,, Iam Told that David Brown tractors will havecrank problems Far, Far , more frequent than other CASE engines because there are only 3 MAIN BEARINGS .. Ya jus' never Know ...

I have a 1294 two wheel, been a good tractor. No engine problems, but had to put a clutch in it. I think they told me the transmission is English, the clutch is French. Not totally sure, been a couple of years. Mine is the three speed, high/low with high/low creeper gears. Paid $8,000.00 for it

They were o.k. Good on diesel, as reliable as anything else that was built back then. The newest 1294 will be around 20+ years old, J.I. Case shut the factory arund 1989. The tractor is British made, if 4wd the front axle will be a Carraro,(Italy) these axles were also used by Ford. The clutch is not French, it is a Laycock or Borg & Beck depending on 2wd or 4wd. 12 speed box with syncro on 2nd and 3rd in each range. The 1294 replaced the Case/David Brown 1290, which had replaced the David Brown 996.
