12v or 6v ligths

Hello Have 2 9n"s. one is 12v and one is 6v, all the ligths on the 6v or burnt out, but i have some extra 12 v ligths laying around, i hooked one of the 12v ligths up to the 6v tractor and it seem to work, would there be a problem useing 12v ligths on a 6v system,? maybe not as brigth, maybe over load battery or chargine system.
Thanks

ff.......uh? didja haffta use a cigarette lighter to see iff'n them 12v lites work on 6v??? They will be VERY DIM. No, they will NOT overload yer 6v system.

Whats so difficult about buying some real 6v lite bulbs??? They are available at most good autoparts stores. Carry yer bad bulb in so the parts person can find the correct matching 6v bulb. Simple, eh? ......Dell, the amazed

When I asked the same questions a couple weeks back I was told VERY dim, not just somewhat dimmer. Go to a good auto parts place and have them order the correct bulb for your tractor. I now have 6v bulbs on my 6v system and they flood everything in front of the tractor. Just wish I had some light on the dash so I could read me darn gauges!

Maybe your 6V system is putting out considerably more than 6V. Might be the reason all of the lights have burned out. If your 12V bulbs have any brightness to them at all on your 6V tractor, I'd break out the voltmeter to see what type of voltage you are getting.

So far, this is the only intelligent answer

Well, actually, no it isn't. He did not say that he had a tractor that was chronically burning out it's 6v bulbs. He said he had a 6v tractor with no bulbs on it that were any good and could he swap them out with some 12's. Learn to read and be a little less critical. These forums are a nice place with good people trying to help others. Bad attitudes due not add to the positive aspects of any public forum.

I have a 12v marker lamp on my left fender (my 8N is 6v), and it works fine for what it is. My headlights and rear work light are 6v and are nice and bright,. I imagine you could use 12v lights in a pinch, but I'd recommend springing for 6v lamps as soon as you can, especially if you do a good bit of work in the dark (plowing snow, for example).

He may just have a poor connection in the charge that wiped out a the bulbs.Good mechanics or technicians always consider all things when making repairs.I have one headlite out but 3 others bulbs are fine.I have to travel 18 miles to get a new head lamp.So it wont get replaced right away. But you wont find my tractor with all lights out.Its not critical its just common sense.

He could get one of those square 6v lantern batteries and hook it in series too.
I wonder how long that would last. Any one care to guess?
Personally I would convert the 6v tractor to 12 volts and be done with it.

Just wanted to add right quick that I've always found people to be very, very helpful on these forums and didn't intend anyone to interpret my post as being critical of any other response. I was just offering a suggestion :-)

I think there are plenty of very bright bulbs on the forum... ;-)

It sure will hurt all systems if he get rearended on the highway with a dim tail light.Im amazed that any one would consider using 12 volt bulbs on a 6 volt battery.I have to travel about a 1/4 mile on the highway to my wood lot. Most dangerous part of my day.

The guy asked a question that he did not know the answer to . I know lots of people that try to make due with what they have before spending money on something new .
