I recently bought a 1456 at a retirement auction. A guy came by and told my son that he knew the tractor and it had a welded crankshaft. Should I be concerned about that? Would you limit the load on the tractor?

A properly welded crankshaft is as good as new. It was never broken, it was just worn beyond undersize bearings. Welding the journals then grinding them to original size, is a sound practice. A new crank (or good used grank) can cost 2X the repair. I would not give it a second thought. Jim

As Jim says,No worries.Run it. Pull the snot out of it.BTW,I own a 1456,and a 1256 too. Both are darn good tractors.

"welded"- kind of a funny word to use, if he said rebuilt I would feel at ezz , or saying the engine was rebuilt. never know what has been welded or by whom.

If it has been running for a while I wouldn't worry about it. Spray welding to return back to spec is pretty common practice on cranks. As Jim said run it.
