Does anyone run a 1460 I.H. in corn? I have been helping a neighbor with his corn harvest and he is having trouble setting his 1460 in 18% moisture corn.I have been running my two 642's in the same field and they are running around 4 mph with 4 row corn heads in 150-170 bpa corn.He says that anything over 3.5 and it really loads his combine and rotor speed drops bad.He is also running a 4 row head.I haven't been around a rotary much but I tried to help him set it the best I could. He is running the rotor at around 700rpm,fan at 900-1000,and both sets of screen about 1/3to1/2 open. The main problem is that the cobs are split and busted out the back.It is not leaving anything on the cob and looks like a cyl/walker machine would if the concave needed to be opened more.He has opened the concave to almost the cleanout setting and still has this problem. There is a lot of cob pieces getting in the grain tank. The second problem is that it is loosing a lot of grain out the back.I know that this probably can be fixed by playing with the screens and fan speed but how much is normal for the 1460 to lose out the back? Not trying to start a color war but I always thought of a 1460 as a big capacity machine but the way this one is running right now my two old 642 Fords will eat it for lunch.I would really like to help him get it set to do the best it will do but I dont know much about red rotary combines and need all the help I can get.
