148 for 3020

I had a nice day today even though it was really hot here today. Pushed out some boxelder tree stumps with my dads 51 A and 45 loader. Then my dad and I went to look at a loader, a 148 for his 71 3020. He thinks it wil be to much for his 3020, I say no. What do you guys think about it?

Typical matchup, but....most 148s have cracks alongside the engine on the 2x2 frame by the radiator-that is not the big issue. Big thing is a 3020 has only two engine side frame bolts at the rear of the engine,,vs 4 on the 4020.- they break off, underneath the loader frame, and you notice that the muffler wiggles separately from the hood. You can retap that bolt one time, then you buy a new engine block. I fixed that - it is in archives- did it over 20 years ago with a new frame that goes back to the axle. Pix are there, or go to email.

When I looked at it yesterday I found no cracks anywhere on the bucket, loader, or mounts. That was pretty good beings it came off of a 4250. $3500 for the loader and it is in very good shape. Also I forgot to mention that it has a shur-loc quick tatch on the front. It would sure beat the 51 A and 45 trip he currently uses. I"ll get some pictures posted when we get it all mounted.

The frames on the loader are a little long for the 3020 and you'll have to notch your steps or space them out a little. Your dad might have seen this on another 3020 and maybe thats why he thinks its a little much for the 3020. Have spent many hours with a 3020 and 148 good match.
