1486 TA Problem?

I am working on a 1486. My problem is when the brakes are applied the tractor comes to a complete stop in both TA and Direct. I then removed the clutch inspection cover and found the main traction clutch to be slipping badly. I then split the tractor and installed a new clutch, new pressure plate, and new flywheel. Upon test driving I found that I still had the same problem. Lube and clutch pressures test fine at 22 and 245 psi. I am fairly confident the clutch is adjusted correctly (by my IT manual) and I can see plenty of clearance between the throw-out bearing and the clutch fingers so I don't think the new traction clutch is slipping. Is it possible that the Sprague bearing and the TA clutch are bad? It just seems kind of odd to me that traction clutch, Sprague , and TA clutch would all be bad at the same time. I am not very experienced in IH tractors so any help would be appreciated. Thanks in Advance. Scott

try an easy solution first. Put in 5 gallons of Hytran fluid above the full mark. This can cover a faulty Oring that can cause issues. It also causes no harm. If this does not work, a major hemorrhage i the brakes might be the cause. Others will chime in. Jim

Your TA is definitely out on the low side and you have internal hydraulic leakage. The hydraulic leak starves the high side for oil that is why the tractor stops with a load of any kind. You will need to replace the TA, rebuild the MCV and always replace the MCV hydraulic pump.

Garrett welcome to YT. I don t know how familiar you are with forums but the layout of this one is a little weird. To appease some folks who aren t to open to change this site has two viewing formats. Modern and Classic, since you mentioned...reply with smile...I take it you are viewing on Modern. Go to the top of the forum page and click Classic View and look for your topic in the Farmall section there, you have some replies there. You replied to an Archived post and the issue is due to the different views being on separate software platforms the moderator can t always get the Classic View to duplicate post back over to Modern. Sorry, I can t help you with your question. I will add if you want to get good information back it would be wise to just take a few seconds to edit what you have wrote so it is clear before you post. I also assume you created the message through voice transcription, which can be difficult to comprehend the words it thinks you meant to say. Good luck with your father s tractor.
