14T Baler

I am trying to find out how to make a smaller/shorter bale on a 14T John Deere baler. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Its been a longgggggggg time but if memory serves me correct (NO warranty) there ought to be a thin flat star lookin wheel that rolls along with the outcoming bale and its on a flat arm with an adjuster/stop with bolt and the higher up more travel you set that stop, the longer the bale cuz its what trips the knotters to tie.

IIRC, the 14T's originally used a segmented star wheel. The segments were slotted, and you could loosen the retaining bolts, and slide them in or out. Larger wheel = longer bales.

At some point, they went to the curved flat arm you mention, with a moveable stop clamped in place. Loosen the setscrew and move the stop to set bale length.

John T is correct, it's the piece on the right side of the bale chamber that looks like a "J" with the hook facing down. There is a little piece like a collar that makes the adjustment.

As the others say. Also if you can find the parts from one that had a kicker on it the part will set you up so you can make a bale about half of a normal bale. With a kicker on them they needed to be real short or when they hit they would fold up and be worthless.

If I remember right I think mine had the adjustable blades on the star drive. all my other balers use the adjustable clamp on the bale trip.
The very first thing that I do when i get a new piece of machinery is order the Factory service and parts manuals. Saves a lot of time wondering how the darn thing works. There are many places including EBay.com to get these.

I happened to have the operator's manual right in front of me. It states: "The bale measuring arm may be set for bale lengths of 12 to 50 inches. The length of the bale may be shortened by loosening the set screw and lowering the stop." (this stop is located on the aformentioned J hook.) If I had a scanner here, I would scan the page for you. Hope this helps.
