153 Buda Crank

I am pulling apart an old 153 Buda out of an E-3 Co-op. The rod bearings have 1615 sb fm 38 stamped into them and the mains have fm 70. Can anyone tell me what this means? Standard on both rods and mains? There are no markings at all With .010 or anything like that.
Thanks.

Well I can help you with part of the numbering set up. Get your Mike out and mike the crank so you know for sure where you are at. Buda also made that engine as a 1 cylinder engine. Your 1615 number was assigned to those engines. In your case they used 4 of those bearings. sb is steel back. babbit bearing material. 38 is the number of cubic inches per cylinder as that engine was a B 38. multiply the 38 plus the fraction times four and you have a 153 cubic inch engine. Needless to say fm70 fm is for Federal Mogul the bearing manufacture. The number 70 I would need to do some digging for. I don't know if I have that old of a F-M catalog. By the way F-M has superceeded those numbers.

If the bearings don't have size marked on them they are normally standard size but mike crank to be sure.

The bearings look really good, that's why I'm a little surprised that it still is at standard. Picked up the engine at a scrap yard just to have some spare parts around. i am just parting it out and saving the "good" parts. Not using it for anything right at this time. Appreciate the info.
Thanks.

Guys I have many used parts and can help with some new ones for these engines. if you are in need email me at [email protected]. Any one ever hear of a farmers field rebuild job for these motors. If the engine has a problem just drop oil pan, slap new bearings in it. Will most like ly get you through the season till bigger problems develope.
