1550 PTO Problem

Hey All---Trying to diagnose a problem from a couple of states away; going to get there in a couple of weeks but thought I'd bug folks for an idea of what to look for. Have a 1550 with single speed 540 dry clutch PTO. PTO has been used a lot on this tractor w/6,000 hrs. Has recently been making some noise occasionally on clutch engagement, been doing summertime mowing, but once engaged and over center, there are no problems with clutch itself. Last time, on engagement the handle vibrated bad, then engaged, then wouldn't disengage. Finally got it disengaged and left it alone. Wondering if the throw-out bearing is bad or the yoke that engages it is broken as the lever no longer does anything. First step is to take the cover off and see what's going on once I get there, but anyone seen this before? Thanks in advance for any help.

Most likely the clutch discs are comeing apart. This causes vibration and often they will double up and make it hard to engage and disengage. That then causes the keys or forks or bearing to brake. So find whats broken and do a good inspection of the disc.

Thanks Larry. Do you know If you can disassmble the clutch pack on the drive shaft or is it easier just to pull the drive shaft out of the tractor to work on?
