1600 horsepower

The early ones with the 3.5 inch bore were rated 56. Somebody else will have to tell you what the later ones were.
Mine's the early 56hp one,and there isn't hardly a dimes worth of difference between that and my 53 horse 1550.

The early ones were rated around 56 like has been mentioned. The later ones I think were bumped up to around 60-65 HP.

I've got my grandpa's 63 1600 (gas), which makes it an early one. He bought it in 64, and the engine was never touched until I opened it up as far as we knew. When I did, it already had the larger 3 5/8 pistons in it, so I think the dealer upgraded it before selling. It was always a good tractor on the blower.

When I rebuilt it, I went to a 3 3/4 piston and sleeve kit. Not sure exactly what it puts out, but it out performs our 80-85 HP Massey 285 on the blower hands down. Not sure if it's the direct driven PTO, or HP, or both, but it's just a great tractor for the job.

Early 1600, 231 cubic inch engine, 1550 232 cubic inch engine. I agree both do about 55 -56 horsepower all things being equal.

My 1600 dyno'd just over 70 horsepower at rated rpm after a rebuild with a 3 7/8" piston and sleeve set. Results can vary, but with the 3 7/8 set I would expect at least 65 horsepower or more. Your mileage may vary though...
