1650 and 4-18 plow

While I was at my cousin's working on my late uncle's tractor (see post below) I saw they have an IH semi-mount plow sitting in the shed. The coulter mounts were 17" apart so I'm assuming it's a 4-18 plow. Could a 1650 handle a plow of this size? It'd be pulling it in fairly level good loam soil.

it shouldn"t have a problem. Friend of mine has been using a 1650d to pull an oliver 5 bottom since they were both new!

and let me note, the ground here is not quite that level and full of rock for example some of the names of the places around here are "Rock Run" and "Granite Knoll" and "Rolling Hills"

I think it might be a bit too much for the 1650.We use an 1800c diesel with not too many hours on a major overhaul with a 4-18 semi mount high-clearance Oliver plow and that's a good match. We also use an International 4-20 high-clearance on an 1850 diesel and that seems just right.

A 4-16 would be more like it for your 1650.~brad

If your tractor is up to snuff, weighted correctly, landside dual on, soil conditions favorable - not too dry, not too wet, and your soil is already loose it would pull it but it wouldn't like it none. A 4-14" is a better match and a 4-16" is a struggle here in our soil.

In the fall of 1964 my dad and I purchased a "1650 D" and a 3 point hitch 4 -14" Oliver plow. This was a large dairy farm with creek bottom land and mostly red gumbo hill ground The tractor did very well (straight six speed)pulling in 3rd gear. We plowed this hill land in wet spring and during dry fall conditions. Some of this was pasture hill soil of fescue and Alfalfa. That was tough plowing and we never went below 3rd gear. After four seasons we sold the Oliver to a neighbor whose large family had several Farmalls, including an IH five bottom, 14" semi-mounted plow. The "1650 pulled the five bottom plow. The neighbor also did custom corn silage cutting and bought a new two row IH cutter that they pulled with the "1650" for the first year. Yhe next silage season they purchased a new IH "856". They thought the IH would just run away with the cutter. Boy, were they let down!

My dad would never turn the fuel up but, our neighbor had the black smoke rolling and a straight pipe. They ran the Oliver another 5 or six years. I never knew where the tractor wound up.

We never had a 1650 but or friends did ( Diesel ) and they pulled a 566 Oliver 5-16 ffor 30 yrs with theirs...silty loam med text soils slightly rolling
