I just acquired a 1650 as a project, and am looking for some general info while I wait for the manuals. It is missing the engine block, crankshaft, and front wheels. I need to know the size of the front wheels/tires and year of manufacture. It has 15.5/38 rears, and does not have the hydra-power. Also will be looking for a good used or rebuildable 283 diesel in the future. I think there are two versions of this engine, direct or indirect injection? I'm not sure which one it had, it has stanadyne pencil injectors, but has a preheat decal on the dash. Maybe an earlier conversion? It has a wide front, but was originally narrow front and was converted by my uncle in the 70's. It belonged to my uncle until he sold his farm and has been sitting in the weeds for 10-15 yrs, the block and crank were "misplaced" by the machine shop years ago. The man that owned it graciously allowed me to purchase it to attemp a rescue. Now if I could just get my hands on dad's 3020... Oh yeah, mod # 265-12214, ser # 193453-452. Thanks in advance for any info!
 
I have a 283 block and crank for a direct injected engine. If you have pencil injectors you have a direct injected tractor.
 
Real quick like: Direct injection engines started at S/N 187 something without looking it up. That was in the spring of 67. You have a later 1967 tractor. Spend the money and call the museum and get the build information. Also make sure you rebuild the head with new valve seats. Also check your liner heights and piston protrusion when you get to that point. More questions?
 
Thanks! It has a heater in the intake, that explains the decal. I picked up the rest of the parts for the engine today, I don't think much of it will be salvageable. The head was out in the weather, the casting may be ok, but all other internal parts are ruined. So I guess I will be looking for a complete engine to build. How do I contact the museum? Thanks again!
