I have a 1968 170 allis and when you start it the 3 point goes up no matter where the lever is , and it won't go down until you shut it down. I pulled the back off the valve and clean it but it didn't help. anyone know whats wrong. thanks

Wish I had a picture, but alas.....Under the platform on the right side are the valves for the 3 point and remotes along with lots of linkage.

Have someone move the "Traction Booster" lever while you watch the linkage under the platform. The traction booster valve will not have linkage attached to it, but just an arm or lever that pushes against the end of the spool. That spool should slide forward when the "TB" lever is pulled rearward and should move to the rear or out of the valve when the "TB" lever is pushed forward. It doesn't move much, maybe 1/2" or so.

My best guess is that either the linkage or the spool is stuck in the forward position.

Check the position control lever and make sure it is not all the way back. It is the closest lever of the pair of levers that are behind the lift arm and the remote ram levers.

Here's the pictures from my D17 Series IV, same hydraulics. First picture is of the TB finger looking at gearshift level:

Now here is looking underneath. This is the pivot that gets stuck holding the TB finger against the TB hydraulic valve spool. Mine freed up by loosening the nut on the pivot. Yours might have to be taken apart, cleaned & lubed. I put the 2nd (bright) nut on to keep the first from working loose. HTH. Same problem came up today over on the "other" Allis board. Mike

Don't know if they're the same, but I had a similar on a CA Allis and there is a screw in valve in the front of the hyd pump. If you screw this valve all the way in (finger tight only) it may let the 3pt. come down. Then you can work system up & down while gradually screwing the valve out again, This worked for me on the CA, but the 170 might be different.

thanks guys I found the traction booster valve stuck tapped on it and got the 3 point working, this trtactor set for 4 years before I got it. now I need to get the T.B. valve freed up.
