my tractor continues to drive foreward with power director in neutral with pto engaged. a bit scary at times. have to stand on the brakes to stop. any easy fix there

I believe that like the D series tractors, this is completely normal. The power director is not a clutch per se but rather a speed changer.

Do you by chance have 80W gear lube in there. It might creep but you shouldn"t have to brake hard. Check for the right gear lube.

Having the PTO engaged makes a difference? I can't see how or why. Is it gas or diesel? The reason I ask is the power director plates had to be redesigned after they went to the 248 cu in Perkins in the 175. That engine had enough more torque it would slip the clutch before it could engage. They reworked the plates so the oil would escape quicker. Regardless of engine, if the clutch has been slipping, the plates could well be warped. Then neutral will be as you describe. Has the power director ever been adjusted? If everything in there is in good shape and adjusted properly, the right oil is in there and warmed up, you should even be able to shift the trans. if you're fast enough.

its diesel 248 i believe. where would the adjustment be. guess i need to get a manual for it. the tractor is good otherwise. starts below zero. strong hydraulics.

I agree with Bob Bancroft. Technically the power director when in neutral only disengages the trans and not the pto which gives you live pto so it sounds like something is going on at the main shaft disc which should be a wet pack assembly so you either have a warped disc or some oil contamination blocking oil flow. If you push the foot clutch does the tractor stop? Which kind of narrows it down if it stops then the flywheel clutch is ok. Make sure you have the proper oil in this compartment and it has been changed regularily. The problem seems to be pointing to the PD pack. I've seen this problem in 185s and 190s but usually doesn't occur pulling heavy pto implements like balers and forage harvesters because the wet clutch assembly is designed to slip regularily with out damage this is usually caused by not following regular oil changes and improper oil added and improper or no adjustments as was mentioned. The AC PD clutch pack has been a very durable device for many years and as you said I would get a manual and follow the oil change procedure and whatever before thinking about doing major sugery I can't remeber the AC lube number for that compartment either 715 or 821. Good Luck CT

thankyou all. i am beginning to feel like the tractor sat for a long period without use. it has 2600hr on the meter and the meter is working. that would also account for the probable bad seals in the injector pump. fuel ion the oil. also the dealer i bought from seems to have done no servicing of any kind. all grease fittings were dry. the power divider seems to be loosening up some with use. i will do a change of all fluids and see what happens.
