180 hydraulics

Hi, I recently split a 180 for a clutch, and now that everything is back together no hydraulics. My biggest question is how to prime the hydraulic pump, the large diameter suction line has a bend in it like a plumbing trap, so i cant fill it with oil to get my prime. I would greatly appreciate any help.

Hey Jon,
When you split the tractor, did you take the suction pipe all the way off or just cut it at the split?
If you cut it and put a chunk of radiator hose where you cut it. This way you can fill the pipe going forward with oil.
Questions? Feel free to call.

Thank you Jerry, What I did was I used a pump to pump the suction tube full of oil, I had to do it a couple of times, but finally I did get it to work. The hydraulics are still a little jumpy, like its starving for oil, and customer said it did that before the split. I just wonder if there is a screen somewhere that could be partialy blocked?

Yes, there is a screen that the oil has to pass through to get to the suction tube. It is located on top fo the manifold that the suction tube and return tube are fastened to and is held in place by the gasket where the manifold bolts to the housing. The easy way to tell if the screen is partially blocked is to remove the drain plug and see how fast the oil drains from the compartment. If the oil comes out in a slow steady stream, then the screen is probably dirty. If the oil comes out in a pulsating stream amd sucks air back into the compartment, then the vent in the fill plug is stopped up with dirt and needs cleaning. I hope that this helps.
