1850 diesel (perkins) timing

Had the front of the injector pump off to try and fix the tach. Not knowing much about these, we may have inadvertantly moved the timing out with the gear out of place. Now the tractor will not start. So I guess I need to readjust the timing but not in the typical way. Any help on getting everything back to normal would be appreciated. Or if your in Southern MI Northern Ohio stop in for a cold one and talk me through it. Thanks

Mark

Mark, you'r best bet is to get you'r hands on a IT manual and study it carefully ,I have timed the 354 before and if my memory is correct these engines will only come into time every 93 revolutions ,I live in sw michigan and may be able to help you , if you have any questions email me.

If you only took the pump gear off you are still O K. You have a phone number. Or where is southern Michigan and or Northern Ohio?

I agree, you MUST have a manual to time the Perkins!! There are 2 ways to time it, either with the pump on or the pump off. Sounds to me like you need to take the pump off and time it that way. Chris

I am in Blissfield MI., from my understanding the pump is in time but the engine is not, I took the injection pump access panel off and it is showing as timed(everything is lining up) I guess now I need to find the timing marks on the flywheel and see if I can get TDC, Starter is out of her right now so thats a good project for tomorrow.
