HI ALL: I have to say I have enjoyed the wealth of knowledge shared on this forum.I have an 1850 gas rolling chassis low hrs. Was thinking about using a283D as a re power tractor will be used for lite work.what all would have to be done to put the 283 in this tractor?I have a 1850 D and a 1855 G W/ loader. Thanks in advance.

Not really answering your question, but since you said repower I thought I"d share.

I thought of this while I was eating. Why not find a blown up 310 diesel and use your block and crank and make a 310 diesel probaly for not a lot of money.

Was this tractor originally a gas? What is different about repowering a gas compared to a diesel? I know the clutch housing is different, but is there any other major stumbling blocks?

It was gas, the frame is the biggest difference. Waukesha mounts need cut and ground out, opening in bottom needs enlarged for oil pan. Perkins frame is alot easier to work with, no cutting, no grinding, just drill and tap the top of the rail. On the plus side the waukesha radiator works better.
