Is a 1850 gasser pretty thirsty for gas when baling rounds and square hay? Possibly going to look at one this weekend. Pro cons of one?
Thanks in advance.
Matt

Nebraska tractor test of 1964 says anywhere from
5 gal/hr to 8 gal/hr depending on how hard you are working it. Maybe someone who actually owns one will give a more accurate response. Hope this helps.

Heavy tillage like plowing is when those gals get thirsty.Light work as in haying won't be bad at all.

GREAT overall tractor,we have a few gasser 1850's.

Shoot,my 2-135 uses that much diesel fuel on the baler. With gas cheaper than diesel, maybe I need an old 1850 gasser for that job.

I'm going to catch it now..

Four 1850D's and one 1850G here there's no keeping up with the fuel for an 1850 gasser by any means. A 4020 JD gasser is easier on gas than the 1850 gasser. Any 1850's constant hydraulics are better than any new generation JD part time hydraulic pumpings anytime.

Daren't ever-never LUG a 1850 gas, or your itchen for a blown head gasket.

I do like the Ollie's Perkins engines powered with either two or three speed hydra-trans.

we run 6 1850 gas and they are not that bad on fuel way ahead of a 4020 diesel ---do the math 1850 310 ci ----4020 404 ci which size do you think would burn the most----cousin had a 4020 diesel could burn 100 gal a day

I been using a 1850 gasser with 3speed for round baling about 3yrs now. Does not drink as much gas as our G1000 Vista did diesel.Rich

My 1850 diesel with pump turned up on Gehl 1200 chopper can burn 5 to 8 gallons per hour.I would think a gasser baling hay would not be to bad.Scott
