Hi, I bought a 1850 gas with the shifter out of it and I am having a hard time getting it back in. This is a pic that I took of it this morning sitting on the seat would be from the right side. my question is, is the shifter suppose to go into the slots on the far left side and does it look like I have them lined up correctly, any help would be great, Thanks

NO the slots on the left of picture are for the interlock neutral part. The end of the shift lever goes in the slots on the RIGHT side of the picture. The middle slot that is narrow will move to the left if the other neutral is used, thats why is narrow.

So does look like it should be in neutral the way that it is sitting and should be able to put the shifter right in, or do I need to adjust one of the shifter rails

Yes it will go back the way it is.Some guys will move the center rail back one position so you can put the shifter into the center spot. That way the gear shift looks straiter when you put it in.
