question i have it , how much black smoke should this 310 engine be putting out ? , under no load, at operating temp. it runs fairly clean of smoke , put it under load & black smoke will roll . engine has a complete overhaul , head set up properly , pump rebuilt , injectors tested good ,rebuilt turbo , fires up very quick , runs great just seems like to much black smoke ,I did advance the timing maybe 2 deg & cleared up some of it , yes i know the service bulletin says to set @ TDC , is it possible the shop just set the pump to fuel it that hard? 2nd question is did these 310's at idle have what i call a cam'ed up sound ( for lack of a better term) not much but still sounds mean at idle , around 900 RPM smooths out , there again engine starts & runs great ,checked exhaust manifold temps at each cyl. 1 & 6 are a little colder (40-50 deg) then the rest but thats normal , other cyls. are the same temp. all the way across. im not really worried of something being wrong just wondering what you guys think?
