i am going to look at a 190 xt diesel and dont know much about them is there any common problems to look for i have never owned an allis before and dont know much about them any info would be a big help thanks

The early model ones had a problem with the tranny and they loved to pop out of gear. Test drive it and make sure both pulling and backing off that it does not jump out of any gear. They where a nice power house tractor at around 98HP. I had one years ago but it was just plain to big for my small farm so I traded it off

They start jumping out of 3rd gear 1st. Put it in 3rd and slowly ease out the clutch, if it jumps out of gear expect to spend $6000 on parts alone. Next door neighbor just bought one at a auction for $2100. Good straight sheet metal but needs paint.

Of the 1,000"s of hours I"ve put on a 190 and two XT"s, I have yet to have one jump out of gear on me. Granted, that"s probably due to how they"ve been treated. If you have some mechanical ability and don"t mind doing the work, it won"t cost anywhere near $6,000 to fix the transmission if it doesn jump out of gear.

If they pop out of gear it is because they were abused- shifting on the fly. Early ones had a light rear end- same as the 63 hp D19. 190XT was 93 pto hp, too much for the light rear end. There were factory updates, not all tractors got them. If it is a Series III, it has the heavier rear end.
