190xt hydraulic help

190xt hydraulics not working. With the engine at high idle you can eventually get the hitch to come up but it’s not just slow it’s jumpy like it’s sucking air. You can hear air purging inside the hydraulic reservoir. With a gauge in the remotes it just bumps up and down with pressure. I have replaced filter, replaced the hose on suction line to pump. Checked relief valves for trash. Removed priority valve from pump manifold to check for sticking or debris. When I removed the sump to check the screen there was a 3/8s steel ball laying on it. I’m wondering if there is a relief valve or check valve in there that could have come apart? Not also that the steering and power director do work though steering is choppy. And all this started at once while baling hay. Working fine till that point. Any help is greatly appreciated. I’m stumped

I'd be pulling the hyd pump and carefully and systematically disassembling it. I think blown side plate seals or a spinning gear on a shaft. Doing one of those pumps isn't for the faint of heart. Lots of pieces and it only assembles correctly one way.

Thank you for the reply. I had read they were a booger. I’m mechanic for a living but never had one apart. Regarding the steel ball, could that just be leftover from a past repair or possibly a detent ball or something?

They aren’t that bad, you just have to remember where parts come off so you can put them back right.
If you’re a mechanic by trade you won’t have any problem at all.

3/8" steel ball on top of the suction screen could be from the hyd oil dipstick or the manual PTO shifter. Nothing I'd be worrying about.

Thank you very much for the help. I will be removing pump this evening

Somehow make a scribe mark down the rear side of the pump at an ANGLE so you know how things go together. There are 8 (?) pieces to get a mark on.

Had a similar issue years back on my 190XT. It was the seal on the pump. Since it has to suck the oil uphill, if the seal goes out, the pump loses prime. If it's a diesel, you might smell some diesel in the front of the pump.
