I am in the process of trying to bring back to life my uncles "little tractor". It has been stored in a shed for at least 25 years. I was able to unstick the motor, replace enough electrical parts to get spark, rebuild and replaced enough of the fuel system to get gas and the silly thing RUNS. I want to change all of the fluids. I opened the transmission fill and drain plugs and a small amount of "tar" oozed out.I want to clean the transmission and put some gear lube in it. What should I run through the transmission to clean it without hurting it? What is the best way to flush this thing? When I refill it the manual calls for 90 weight gear lube. Should I put in something heavier to slow the leaks or should I just go with the 90 weight. Is there anything else I should check before I start using this tractor.

Packer Fan: Any light oil will flush it well enough. After 25 years your not going to get it all until you use the tractor.

Two lubrication items to check in the manual magneto drive and fan hub, but then the whole lubrication guide is important.

myself i would use some used hyd.oil if available, dont need it right full and then just drive it around to flush the system.that should loosen up that old gooey thick 140 wt. oil.you wont hurt anything doing this because your just idling around, not like your pulling a load.then drain and see how it looks. could give a final flush with diesel but i would not drive it due to lack of lubrication with diesel.then fill er up with 80-90 wt. gear oil.

Put your drain plugs back in.....fill with ferosene.....jack the back wheels off the ground and let it run a while.....then let it set full overnight.....put a little engine oil in the gas to lube the valves.....let the engine run......

Drain the kerosene replace the gear oil with 90 - 140wt.....
