1946 @2N Front mount Distributor

I have a 1946 2N Ford, front mount distributor and I have two (two) problems that I would like your help in solving.

1. The hood is rusted out on the right vertical side, about 10 inches long. Can it be repaired or will I be required to replace it? If it needs to be replace any suggestions where I should Look!

2. Tires are 12.4 X 28. One wheel is leaking Calcium chloride and the rim will require replacing. Will this require replacing the tire also? Are the rear tires tubless? I solict your help where I might replace the rims and/or tires for the rear. (I live in the Kansas City metro area).

Is your rusted out piece the vertical downleg that is seperate from the hood? Thats the only piece that is 10 inches vertical that I can think of.If so you can get one on E-bay,The rear rim can be puchased on this website or a local tire shop that does farm tires,they have tubes and you should be able to use the tire again if the bead is not dry-rotted.

The dog leg is OK. The hood is rusted out on vertical side and runs about 10 inches horizontally!

Sounds pretty bad..I"d replace it unless you are handy with a torch and mig welder..If so,you might find a donor hood and cut out the bad place on yours and replace with a good patch from the donor.

Their was enough metal left on a 10 inch horizontal rust thru on my 45 2N on both side, by the battery, that I was able to remove rust, treat with "Phospho" (rust restorer) and then fiberglass hole. Still good after about 3 years.

The rear tires use tubes. You would not want to put calcium chloride in your wheels without them.
You do not want the calcium chloride touching (and eating) your rims!
