1947 2N Battery Size

Howdy!
I was wondering if there is a certain measurement for the original battery? I need to replace mine, it is a 12 volt conversion, but I want to use a battery hold down instead of a bungee cord. Also need to make sure the posts don't short out on the hood. Is there an original equipment measurement somewhere so I can use the hold down made for my tractor? Or do I have to try to use something else?

The 9N, 2N and 8N all originally used 6 volt batteries, BCI Group # 1 (9 1/8"L,7 1/8"W, 9 3/8"H). There are 12V batteries available with simular dimensions. Any good auto parts shop should have a chart with the BCI Group Codes and dimensions.

Vrrunt.......would you believe that the N-Ford MPC (Master Parts Catalog) doesn't even tell you that the battery is 6-volts??? Just that it is "13-plates, domestic". Weird, eh?

Today, N-Batterys are classified at size 1A.

My hand written notes in my MPC say that size 22 or size 35 are acceptable 12-volt replacements. REMEMBER 12-volts are NEGATIVE GROUND. Hooker-up bassackwards and ya lett the SMOKE outta yer alternator. ......Dell

You can make your own battery holdowns from 3/4 angle steel.Miter the corners and weld.Remove metal near battery posts.
