1949 B finished

Finished the restoration of my 1949 B a few weeks ago, would like to thank everyone on this site for the help over this past year i have leaned alot on this first restoration, some minor issues when i first brought it out, but easy fixes, mangaged to get it in the field this past weekend and plow for about 6 hrs, should be well on its way to broken in now, ran great with no issues, Thanks again everyone for there help

Kyle that looks very nice. Congratulations. I noticed something different where the rockshaft would be. Is that some kind of aftermarket cover?

no mark it is a factory flatback cover, as far as i can tell tractor was ordered this way, and far as i know there not very common.

You have a beautiful tractor, nice work. But, the John Deere on the hood should be 2 inches back from the front edge of the hood on the late styled B. Centered in the hood is correct for B's up to 1947. Have fun with your tractor.

No correct police comments here...just a nice job on your tractor...those ole B's were sure tough and looks like this one is ready to go again...I've had 3 of these and have used 3 points on them....great tractors...

I checked my parts catalog again - I have been through it a thousand times - no flatback in there. I didn't know they existed for the late B. They must be pretty uncommon. I'm writing that number down so I can keep my eyes open for one.

Not trying to start an argument here but...the decals are in the right position for a '49 B. They were moved to 2 1/2 inches from the front seam later on, in '51 I believe. I think the serial number break is given in an article by J.R. Hobbs.

I am not sure of the serial number break either, but you are right on the money with the hood decals. They were originally in the middle and then moved forward around '50 or '51.

mark thanks for your comment, it did turn out nice, as for placement, i reseached back in the archives before placing decals and found quite a bit of info on placement, as far as i can tell the move forward took place in approx november-december 1949, this tractor was built december 29 1948 so i placed the decals in the middle of the hood

Your decals look fine to me ! But just don't compare it to my 2 late B's as they are both wrong ! LOL Decaled long long ago. Long before the correct police formed.

What I have since learned from observing several original paint tractors is that about the time the rear axle was squared the decals moved up far on the side of the hoods.

I do remember seeing that flatback in the parts book but I have never seen one in person.
