Is there any difference between a GE 30 E and a 10A4209 head? They both appear the same even in the valve area. I believe the GE 30 E has a crack and I will need another head (10A4209 or equal) if I am right.

Where is the crack at on your head ( the tractor not you lol ). The reason I ask is I have two M5s and both of them have an external crack on the front head both in the same place (one has a 4206 the other has a 4209), just to the left of the soft plug, above the head gasket, about 3/4 inch long. I patched one with JB Weld so I could use the tractor and it seems to be holding fine so far. Plan on trying it on the other one. I think the main difference in the heads were the height of combustion chamber, (someone on here knows more about that than I do).

I'm not sure...but it's leaking into the cylinder area and eventually into the oil. Don't think JB Weld is going to help.

Nope, JB Weld wont help there, external ones its worth a try. I wonder if they all crack in the same general areas? Odd question but is the weep hole on the water pump open or clear? ( you probably check that allready ).

Here's a link to some comparisons of MM heads

I believe the GE30 and 10A4209 had different spark plug threads

Well, I have one of each on my M5, that's how it was when I got it.

Seems to run fine.

Thanks for all the replies. That was a good thought Alan...with the weep hole. The rust seems to be limited to the #3 cylinder. I can see a slight difference in the spark plug hole...and this tractor has had the two different heads since I've had it. Pulls a 12 foot disc and harrow just fine. I am interested in either of the two heads. You can email me at [email protected].

Thanks again...Kurt

I think my old parts U had two different number heads, with different size spark plug threads. How do you explain that to the guy at the parts counter lol...
