I have a new camshaft p/n8n6250 and distributor drive gear p/n 7ra6255. The drive gear has a line stamped on the face. Does the drive gear have a certain position when you press it on the camshaft.

If I'm following you here...
On every engine I've ever had open the cam
gear was timed to the cam with a keyway.
And the line on the face was there to time
the gear to a corresponding line on the
gear on the crank shaft.
Photo shows timing the cam and injector
pump to the crank shaft on a 3 cylinder
Ford tractor engine.
This one is timed through an intermediate
idler gear but they all work about the
same.

Welcome steven88, my 3729-52-C
owners manual pic appears to show
the stamped line registering to
the slot at the end of the cam.
However, none of the 3 cams ive
looked at, from running engines,
share the same clocking for the
7RA6255 gear. Not with the cam
slot, and not with each other.
They appear to be pressed on
randomly.
