1951 John Deere starter

I have a 51 jd A with a stroked crank in it and the delco 1108950 starterdoesn't have enough power to get it started. I am wondering if anyone knows a reduction starter that will fit up in there, I would like to keep the starter underneath if possible.

Do you have petcocks in the block? If you have petcocks in it, a stock start should have no problem starting it.

I don't have petcocks and the starter was just checked out, it just don't have enough power to turn it over good

petcocks alone won't be enough if you're stroked a lot. there is a reduction starter that I believe was used on new holland skid steer loaders that is a direct bolt up and makes a big difference. i'll see if i can get some numbers off of mine tomorrow.

on this so called skid loader starter, like you said you wont it to stay in the belly, it wont fit!plus with out petcocks it to will not turn your engine over!hate to bust your bubble,but deere thought it was wise to use petcocks,you uped your stroke and compression you need them,plus its alot easyer on the engine.take your stock starter and have a good shop go through it with a good battery and alt. and cables and you'll have no problems for a long time.

There is NO petcocks in the block so the only thing i can do is find a starter to turn it over.

Its pretty easy to put petcocks in a power block........

there wasn't a big stroked shaft in it either but you managed to put one in didn't you?why stay stock now?bite the bullet, get over it, tear it back apart and drill out some petcocks in it!
