1952 8N shifting issue

Hi Folks,
I"ve really enjoyed reading the posts and went all the way to "99 and couldn"t find anything similar.

A friend with no tractor experience bought a "52 8N.
All gears seem to be fine with the notable exception of 1st. When you try to shift to 1st it"s actually like there"s not a gate there. It doesn"t go into first and not move...it"s like it doesn"t recognize there"s supposed to be a gear there.

I put it on his 16" trailer on a suicide ride in 2nd gear and WOT...don"t try this at home.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

only thing i can sugest is with the tractor in neutrual, pull the top off the tranny and see if it has a bent shift fork, rail or damaged gears, it has to be hanging up on something in there, not much else you can do as you dont know what happened to the tractor to cause the problem

Don't be afraid of the tranny, simply really, but you will need a book. NOW, splitting the tractor to get to the tranny, that's a whole nother story.

WTH is WOT?
