The Claw

I had the seals on the differential shaft replaced. The neighbor that did it for me said the shaft on the one side had a deep groove in it. Sure enough, it leaks. The neighbor has since passed. Any "easy" fixes or advice for this?

Speedie sleeve any bearing seal outlet can get them. They would need dimensions(shaft and housing) or at least the seal number.
I believe he did put on a sleeve when he replaced the seal (invoice says "seals and sleeves". I believe he told me he was not confident because of the depth of the groove. Wish I could ask him..... Any ideas if a Speedie Sleeve has already been used?

It is possible, not probable, that the seal was possibly damaged upon installation. Only way to know is tear into it. Then you will see if a spedi sleeve was installed or not. gobble

IF he did not use a sleeve to slide the seal over the splines for the brake hub it could have ripped it. I would just tear it back apart and see what is going on as this is a very easy job if you have any mechanical inclination. Just make sure that you lock the opposite side brake before pulling the inner bearing carrier out. Also check the o- ring that goes in the housing bore.

If you re do the seal you also may be able to recess or leave the seal protruding a bit to get it running on a different part of the shaft, I have done this before when a shaft is worn.
