We have a 1953 JD "50" that developed clutch problems all of a sudden. It just quit moving. If I feathered the clutch lever I could get it to move a little.I took the clutch assembly apart but the clutch discs look good. They only measure .006 thinner than new ones.So I think it is a linkage problem in behind the belt pulley.I aqm not sure how to take the belt pulley off. By the book it looks like you take off a snapring and the assembly slides off the shaft but there is like a dust cap there first.I don't see a way of removing this to get to the snapring without ruining it.Is this the right way or does the belt pulley come off a different way? Thanks for any help!!!!!!!!!!!!

63 830-to pull the clutch you have to make sure wheel is out far enough to allow pulley to slide off crankshaft. Once this acomplished, you pull the front clutch linkage pin and disconnect the linkage. Make sure clutch is disengaged. Clean the area in front of clutch pulley good to minimize dirt entry while pulling clutch pulley control. You must disassemble the clutch and clutch driver on the end of crankshaft-be carefull removing driver-these can really be stuck on tapered spline on crankshaft-notice V mark on driver hub that must be lined up with mark on crankshaft when reassembled. Remove the four bolts that hold the clutch fork to the first reduction cover housing. Pull the assembly (forks) out forward and disengage from clutch-notice grooved bushing they engage so you can reverse procedure to assemble. This allows you to pull clutch pulley and inspect it for the problem. Problem may be a broken clutch fork.

all you probably needed to do was to adjst your clutch using the three castle headed nuts that are exposed when you remove the pulley cover. if you start trying to pull the clutch driver your going to need qa puller tha will screew into it. don't try to pull it with a 2 or 3 legged puller. it will break the edges off the coutch driver. a puller that looks like a "h" i s what ou need. the short horizonal bar in the h should hacve a hole in it that you can put a bolt through. first remove the bolt out of the end of the crank, remove the big washer, put the bolt back in and tighten it up as far as you can. its nice to have a dimple in the head of the bolt. use two bolts to go through the vertical bars of the h and screw them into the holes in the clutch driver. you just need to work it out where your nuts go in your mind. its ease to see wants yhou get into it. put as much tension on the clutch driver puller as you can and you'll still need to heat it. sometimes they will pop right off and sometimes they want. mine came off inlike 3 or 4 second of heat. then i have heated them for 2 or 3 minutes where they have been setting outside for a long time. em me if you want my phone number to talk this over.
