1953 Jubilee

Just purchased a 53 Jubilee and need info as I don't have manual yet. Is front cylinder #1? Where on flywheel is timing inspection? Under Hyd pump? Tryin to git er runnin and I guess I gots to start with the basics. Got spark, got compression, fuel dont seem to be gittin in. Either does nuttin. Maybee mouse nest in manifold? Seems to have suction at carb. I'll git der wit a wittle help fwom my fwends! It's my fiwst Jubiwee. A wittle difwent den de Ns.

you say you have spark is that to the plug or thru the plug, pull the plugs and prop one against the engine and see if you have a good spark, thru the plug if you have either should start it plugs may be flooded my jubilee will flood the plugs if i just look at the choke

ok, next, if it were mine i would pull the plugs, 1 at a time and drip a few drops of gas in the cylinders, then see if it tries to start or not this will determine if the problem is with the engine itself, or something up stream in the manifold, carb ect, that will give you a idea which way you need to investigate

its possible you might have some mud daubers ect that have built a nest up in the manifold or just above the carb, you also might pull the carb and see if you find anything up in there too

With the fuel shutoff turned to OFF - remove the drain plug from the bottom of the carb and let any fuel drain into a can. Once the fuel stops, turn the fuel shutoff valve to ON and see if gas starts flowing into the can from the drain hole. It should be a nice stream, not a weak dribble. If not - you probalbly have rust in the tank clogging up the pickup tube in the fuel shut off valve. You could remove the fuel line from the carb and blow compressed air backwards through the line to clear the clog - but it will return. A good cleaning of the fuel tank (or replacement) is the only fix here.

If you have a good stream at the carb I would rebuild the carb or at the very least soak it in carb dip overnight and blow out the passages with canned carb cleaner (wear eye protection).

To answer your questions: Plug closest to radiator is #1. Timing can be checked by removing the timing hole cover on the right hand side of the flywheel housing.

I'd start off by insuring my gasoline was fresh. Battery fully charged. All connections clean tight and bright. I'd clean and re-gap the plugs (0.025") or replace with new Autolite 437 if they look suspect. I'd put in new points @ 0.025" and if it still won't start and run get back for additional help. Good luck.

Just another thought......... The Jubilee needs a vented gas cap. It is not like the 8N's that have a breather hole in the tank. Try loosening the cap and see if you have gas flow. You may also have a restriction to flow through the screen in the tank above the sediment bowl. The one above the glass portion of the bowl, or the screen in the elbow going into the carb. Three screens just like the "N's".

Fuel is flowing. Checked dist is in correct. static time set at 5 deg. Points at .025. Plugs at .027 Inspected and cleaned carb which appears to be brand new. Dist is not 180 out. Compression seems a little weak at 75 in 3 and 85 in 1. Plugs are sparking fine. Dribbled fuel in to plug holes and got some backfires out of it. Still seems like it is not getting fuel. Suction at carb is good. Exhaust is not cloged. Carb bowl is full. New gas. Help!

(quoted from post at 18:48:21 03/08/08) Dunk, I think a jubliee is cw.

Murn, that is the reason for the question mark. Thanks for the reply.

I know nothing about the NAA. I ONLY really know about 8Ns.

But from what he is saying about putting gas in the plug holes and it popping, it could be plug wiring wrong.

Got er runnin. Seems to be a carbatator problem.
and possibly a played out dist cap. Lots of play in capfor some reason in moves all over the place. will replace and reinspect carb.
