1954 Farmall Cub

First time user. I have an issue with my Cub where the engine will turn over but will not start. Put in new plugs, points, spark plug wires and am getting spark. I had to remove the governor housing to free up throttle arm that was frozen. Moving freely now, but when I put the gearing back in the housing and reconnected, I would not fire. Would installing the gearing in the governor incorrectly prevent the tractor from firing?

The governor drive gear has to be timed to the camshaft gear to keep the magneto "in time" and if you shoved the governor back in place without the magneto drive slot and magneto drive tangs lining up and engaging and bolted down the governor housing it's possible to break or damage the magneto or governor "cover".

I suggest sliding down lower on the page to the IH and Farmall-specific Forum and asking, grandpa Love will probably see it and give a cut and paste detailed answer vs. me typing it all out on how to proceed.

You most likely have the timing way off. Both gears should have marks on them you have to line up to time it correctly

If the tractor has a magneto the governor must be timed !! If the Cub has a distributor it doesn't,!! We had the governor off 3 Cubs or super A this week for cleaning and repairs. Popped the governor back in ,then installed the cover ,all have a distributor......IF you have a magneto it's a whole different deal 😔. Call or text me , happy to help you. We literally work on these every day 😮
